Should I Still Ask Her Out At This Point Or Too Late? Have Made Little To No Progress. Please Read?

To make a long story short, I got the courage to speak with the girl I like in class. It went ok. After that I would say hi to her and all that stuff. But our conversations every now and then have been really short and eventually she wouldn't say much back. She seems to smile a lot though but I'm not sure if she does that a lot in general. I explained my story to a few friends and they said I probably spoke about myself too much. I did it so she could open up and we could have conversations.
