Adobe Flash Player/laptop Problems?

I recently had a problem where I couldn't open any files on my adobe reader. Then it eventually started with the flash player. Now I can't open files or watch videos. I tried to download them again and now when the download finishes it tell me that I need to set associations in control my panel. I don't know what that means. I opened the set associations on my computer but I don;t know what to do from here. Someone help
